Map Showcase
« on: January 04, 2010, 03:35:36 PM »
This is a dedicated dim3 map thread. The guidelines for this thread are the same as with the 3d Model Thread. Instead of creating a new topic for a few maps that you want to showcase that do not have an organized and well thought-out project, post them here. You may also post maps that belong to your projects, if you so wish.

Can I post screens of maps which are not complete but are needing some comments because they look stupid? Probably, and if so I'll edit this post.

Isn't that the point?

This is a Dimball map which is still being conceived. It's more of a "what do I want to do with this kind of area" map than anything else. I was planning to keep this a secret, but I'm hitting a dead end with ideas for fleshing this map out. It's supposed to the area immediately outside the Warehouse map.

Give the wall grunge like the door. Make it worn out.

That. And add some old newspapers to the floor or other dirt that could belong to the scene. Pieces of plastic or metal or something like that. Also the gates are suggesting that there are big cars or trucks behind them. Add braking marks and add bigger spots of dirt to the floor by an extra-layer. :)
Also this is a paintball area, right? I don't think that people clean it after every match.

Yeah, like in COD4/MW2, just add more stuff around. The shadows look great on this map btw. :)

Beautiful warm and cool lighting contrast, looks like this one's going to be even nicer than the previous maps.

The crates look a bit flat btw, all the other textures look good (though the wall is too clean..)

I have no problem with adding in extra doodads. I just don't know what to do with the layout of the map. I could just make it be a big square area filled with doodads & crates, and maybe a small bunker building or eight.

What if you had one of those gates open, like on the Halo 3 map Orbital?

No way that could work. The other side of those gates is supposed to be the warehouse map. That map already runs slow, so replication issues aside, it would simply kill the framerate when used in addition to the current map.

It could be a fenced off area in the desert with, as you say, maybe a small bunker or eight. It's nice to see more exterior stuff. Maybe even a broken down vehicle to hide behind or in?

Maybe some broken crates, packing material, directional signs, and tire marks would help. Or you could put in an 18 wheeler or some other large vehicle.
