Looks decent. The handle should be a little smaller, angled back a bit and maybe the bit that guards the trigger (I forget the name) should be smaller.

I did think the handle was kind of strange.
In the reference image I used the piece that guards the trigger is actually much bigger than in the model, either that or the trigger is smaller, which wouldn't look right on the model.

Something is wrong at the front of the gun near the barrel, some random edges are showing up in the wireframe.

What gun is it modeled after?
The handle looks pretty blocky - you could maybe do an inner extrude followed by a regular extrude to make it look slightly better (there are better ways)

The front of the gun looks odd. I don't know many guns that have the square body part sticking up over the... tube thingy (mind went blank).

The handle of a gun should be comfortable to hold. With that handle aiming could be difficult. And I don't think that any finger fits into that trigger thing.

This is a female base model to make characters from. I'm not 100% happy with this one but not entirely sure why, the shoulders are perhaps a little manly. I'll carry on and make a character model from this and see how it goes...

Yeah, you might be right, I keep scaling parts down, I guess the hips are still quite broad. I think perhaps the hands and feet are also too big. I think I'll carry on and make it into a character, once I have clothes and a head maybe it'll be clearer what adjustments are needed...

Either the hips have to shrink or the shoulders have to broaden up... I'd find a reference image to make sure.

No the hips and legs are fine. What's lacking is an actual hourglass. The top half of the body needs to be a bit larger/taller, and the area at breast level a bit wider.

It may look a bit odd, but unless you're modeling a teenage girl, that's more what it should be like.

Thanks guys, I've made some adjustments and it's looking a little better, I'll post the finished character model when it's done.

Hey Dom,
I think my fellow post mates are all wrong.

Right now she looks very old because of the hips. They don't look wrong though. Here are my fixes (hope you don't mind my paintover):

Full size: Click here

I'd shorten the legs even more, but that's a matter of taste.

Next time you should use a ref-picture in the background because it's easy to get confused by all the wires in the mesh. That was probably the problem, because I know you can do proportions right. :)

/edit: I edited the whole post.

Imon is right. One thing about female hips is that the waist line is rather high, and the transition from waist to hips is often fairly smooth. The hourglass figure is not found in all women, but right now this model is missing the top of half of that figure. The whole top half of the torso is about the same width, which looks kind of odd.

The only problem I see with Imon's example, is that the widest part is about the middle of the thighs. A woman's hips are wide because the pelvis is wide, and the pelvis isn't at thigh level. As you can see from the ref I posted, the proportions go from a rather slim waist, to hips that are as wide, or wider than the shoulders, and then the bumps on either side are from the bone and muscle in that area.

As you can see from the image, the widest part of the hips is right where the crotch ends.

Also as far as length is concerned, I think right now the legs are too long. IIRC, the legs are as long as the body is from the bottom of the crotch to the top of the head.

Hmm... yes – the crotch should be lower.
Reference > imagination

PS: How is it possible that I can't find even one single picture of a naked woman reference on Google?

Hehe. I just searched "female anatomy" and "female proportions".

Nice anatomy discussion!
Imon- For me, you've hit the nail on the head. These are the adjustments that I was looking for. I've made the feet a bit smaller and the lower legs a bit shorter too.
Alex- I've got to say that the proportions in that last pic don't look that good to me. The pelvis in the skeleton is tiny, the hands are twice the size of the feet, the waist is tiny but the breasts are huge. For me, the V shape of the upper body is more exaggerated than I would like. However, one of the interesting things about this type of discussion is that people do come in many shapes, so I'm sure there are people with this kind of shape, but it's just not the shape I'm looking for. The thighs do look very muscular in Imon's example, but I think that's the look I want, a fairly strong physique, not too sylph-like.
Thanks guys, all these comments have been very interesting and useful to me.
